4. Star Wars: The Old Republic ($200 million)

This online multiplayer game ranks amongst the best Star Wars games ever made. Developer Bioware, who were behind the best-selling Knights of the Old Republic, proved that they could make an entertaining multiplayer role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe featuring their usual branching storylines and great characters.

And the game had a rather big budget, costing more than $200 million (£133 million). Actually, it was the most expensive video game ever made, until GTA V was released in 2013. As a matter of fact the game’s budget is comparable to that of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, which is $200 million according to Wikipedia. Although listed Hollywood movie budgets don’t include marketing costs, it still impressive that video game budgets are in the hundreds of millions, as this shows how important the video game medium has become.
