7. Tomb Raider: Anniversary (2007)
Despite the fact that new contenders like the excellent Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune were hitting the market at this time, Tomb Raider: Anniversary proved Lara Croft was still a gaming icon as it was a good reimagining of the original Tomb Raider game.
The remake featured improved controls and updated graphics, but despite the new Matrix-style shooting mechanic the combat still wasn’t up to much and shooting wolves and bears got old quickly, even if that first encounter with the T-Rex was still a great gaming moment though…
But the platforming, puzzles and level design were as good as in the 1996 original, and figuring out a complex puzzle after hours of thinking was still as rewarding as ever, in a game that reminded players of everything that is great about the Tomb Raider series.
