3. Dune: Awakening
As seen in the trailer below, players arrive on Arrakis as a prisoner, and can rise from the bottom, getting to make decisions that affect hundreds of other players in the game as Funcom explains on its website. Also, the game’s story is not directly based on the novel or movies – rather this is an alternate Dune universe in which House Atreides (led by Duke Leto Atreides) is duking it out with the Harkonnen, with players deciding which side to take in the conflict. Of course, like other MMOs, this has base building, combat and exploration. You’ll also be able to command Dune’s famous sandworms, ride vehicles like the Harkonnen ornithopter and fight for the “spice mélange”, in what could be one of the top multiplayer games of the year no doubt.
