4. Doom: The Dark Ages
So Doom fans will likely welcome Doom: The Dark Ages with open arms this year, it being a prequel to 2016’s Doom, letting you play once again as “the slayer”, taking on the minions of hell with a variety of weapons as seen in the trailer below. Of course, Doom’s “glory kills” will also feature in The Dark Ages, with the protagonist seen beheading an enemy with his “chainsaw shield” – a new addition to the franchise. It also remains to be seen how important melee weapons will be in this entry given all weapons (even the ranged ones) draw inspiration from the Middle Ages… Also, the familiar heavy metal soundtrack and gorgeous ray traced graphics (which according to id Software will be pushing the envelope, especially on PC) and this could be a Doom game to remember when it’s released this spring.
