7. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

This upcoming role-playing game features turn-based combat, and takes place in a dark fantasy world. Here you’ll be facing one of the most original enemies in a video game: an evil woman known as “the paintress”. Actually, she “paints death” every year, erasing everyone of a certain age… So the game’s party of heroes definitely have a strong motivation to go after her, exploring settings like a picturesque island and a battlefield.

Of course, an aside from what looks like Final Fantasy-style combat (which apparently combines turn-based with real-time gameplay), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 appears to boast a colorful cast of characters. These include the young Maelle, who’s voiced by actress Jennifer English (who lent her voice to Baldur’s Gate 3’s Shadowheart character) and a mage named Lune, who’s looking to figure out the mystery behind the Paintress, and who is showcased in the trailer below. It remains to be seen whether this game made by studio Sandfall Interactive – their debut game in fact – lives up to the hype this year, though.

Release date: April 24, 2025. Available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
