After Walt Disney bought Lucasfilm, Star Wars fans were delighted to hear that a new series of Star Wars films would be released starting in 2015, directed by J.J. Abrams of Star Trek fame.
This also meant that gamers could expect a new batch of Star Wars games, starting with Electronic Arts’ Star Wars Battlefront. And if we look at the history of Star Wars games, it is clear that there have been quite a few outstanding games. Games that certainly did the Star Wars movies justice and surely pleased fans of the famous galactic saga. Here follows a list of the top 10 Star Wars video games.
10. Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire (1995)
Rebel Assault II was noteworthy for being the first Star Wars video game to feature original movie bits with real actors. So no matter how cheesy the acting was, players got to see the first original live action Star Wars story since 1983’s The Return of the Jedi.
The game itself was actually a “rail shooter”. That is, your spaceship would follow a predetermined course through space and the only thing you could do was aim and shoot at enemy spaceships, such as the fearsome TIE fighters. It was like an interactive movie, but with little interaction. And even if the protagonist was a nondescript pilot who went by the name “Rookie One”, the novelty of playing an original Star Wars interactive movie never wore off.
