2. Red Dead Redemption

While Red Dead Redemption follows the Grand Theft Auto template, it would be unfair to call Rockstar’s epic a “Wild West GTA”. Because Red Dead Redemption is a great game in its own right, featuring a fantastic cast of characters including outlaw protagonist John Marsten, the cunning Mexican revolutionary Abraham Reyes, a devious government agent named Edgar Ross who comes to blows with Marsten, and other great characters in the game’s superb single player campaign.

Starting in a small frontier town, players can also explore the game’s open-world, performing all sorts of side activities like hunting down bandits and handing them over to the local sheriff, or try their luck at a game of poker to make some extra coin. And there’s no doubt that Red Dead Redemption is a bona-fide classic of the last console generation, which luckily can also be played on the Xbox One thanks to the new backwards compatibility feature of Microsoft’s console.
