8. Jean-Claude Van Damme

Back in the 90’s Van Damme was something of a superstar. Appearing in films like Universal Soldier and Timecop, the Belgian martial artist sure was an audience favourite. And it was surely his star power and martial arts skills that led director Steven E. de Souza to cast him as colonel Guile in the 1994 Street Fighter movie.

And say what you will about that movie, but at least it was commercially successful. Although it certainly wasn’t a critics’ favourite, as evidenced by its score of 12% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its one saving grace is Raúl Julia’s final performance as Bison, who overacts just enough to be convincing and entertaining as the maniacal evildoer. And Van Damme himself does pretty well as the wisecracking Colonel Guile, who wanted to put an end to Bison’s word domination plans.
