17. Star Wars: Tie Fighter

This Tie Fighter game is not only the best Star Wars space combat game, it’s arguably the best space combat game of all time too. As a pilot in the nefarious Galactic Empire, you get to dogfight rebel spaceships like the X-Wing, take on capital ships and also run escort missions. The game’s plot takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi – and even if you know the Empire doesn’t win in the end, this lets you live the fantasy of being a hotshot pilot for the imperial cause, and even be Darth Vader’s wingman in one mission too…

Sadly, though, this remains confined to PCs, even if one of the best games of all time does deserve to be remade or at least remastered for consoles someday.
