With this game Belgian developer Larian Studios managed to top its 2014 game Divinity: Original Sin, which is no mean feat. The game is obviously inspired by classics like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape Torment, but has a personality of its own. The fantasy world of Rivellon is not only huge, but there’s a deep and involving story to follow to the end, and you can choose to play as one of six pre-made characters. These include a giant talking lizard known as the Red Prince, and an elegant female elf named Sebille who seeks revenge on her master.

Of course, as in other high fantasy RPGs, you can create your own character and assign him or her a class like warrior or crusader, and equip yourself for battle in a way that suits your playstyle with the ton of gear and many spells available in the game. So while Larian Studios may have topped themselves with their more recent Baldur’s Gate 3, Divinity: Original Sin 2 still stands head and shoulders above most RPGs out there.
