12. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn

And unlike other RPG games there was hardly any filler in Baldur’s Gate 2. The quests were inventive and original, such as one that saw you battling a red dragon or another that had you siding with vampires in the city of Athkatla. Played today, Baldur’s Gate 2 definitely feels like an old-school RPG, with its turn-based combat and an isometric perspective. It is also rather unforgiving and a difficult game (much like the more recent Baldur’s Gate 3), but also, undoubtedly, still one of the best RPGs to date, and modernized in 2013 with the release of an enhanced edition.
