9. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy 7 is one of the best RPGs of all time, and it got a remake worthy of its name in 2020. Characters like Cloud, Tifa and Aerith look better than ever here, while combat against the game’s menagerie of enemies, from Shinra troopers to giant robots is spectacular too. However, Square Enix made the controversial decision of splitting the remake into three, this being a succulent appetizer of what is to be a trilogy of games.

This remake covers the Midgar city section of the original game, pitting Cloud and company against the evil Shinra corporation. There are also quite a few side quests to take on in the slums of Midgar, and the game’s plot does have quite a few twists and turns too. Like in other RPGs characters level up, and you get to use the magic Materia orbs like in the original game, which grant the ability to summon creatures to your aid during fights, amongst other things. All in all, Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the best Final Fantasy games and a top RPG you don’t want to miss.
