Top 20 Role-Playing Video Games Ever Made

14. Mass Effect 2

Bioware did not disappoint with this sequel to their seminal Mass Effect. Although Mass Effect 2 has a darker tone than its predecessor, it still features a great story and characters such as the Illusive Man (voiced with aplomb by Martin Sheen) and the genetically-engineered vixen Miranda, who is amongst the sexiest female video game characters to date.

And while the original game had the typical “save the universe” storyline, the sequel’s multi-layered story sees Sheppard join the mysterious group Cerberus and visit plenty of shady places across the galaxy, in order to assemble a team to counter a new alien threat. And while some side activities such as scanning planets for minerals were not that great, when it came to blasting aliens the game’s third-person action was as good as that of the best shooters such as Gears of War. But still, Mass Effect 2 was a role-playing game at heart, and a great one at that, and now part of the remastered Mass Effect Legendary Edition compilation.
