4. The Angry Birds Movie ($352 million)

Given the fact that video game movies have a history of not being that good, it is logical that not much was expected from this Angry Birds movie. After all, it is based on a game which involves using a slingshot to fling birds at pig houses with the intention of destroying them (which is silly indeed). But the Angry birds video game is no doubt one of the most successful ever released for mobile gamers.

But despite the movie sporting big-name talent like Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones and voice actors like singer Romeo Santos, it was still torn apart by the critics due to its dumbness (even by kiddie movie standards) and due to the fact that it simply wasn’t that much fun. But still, the game’s popularity certainly helped draw the crowds to theatres, and this is still one of the top grossing video game movies of all time, having made more than $352 million at the box office to date.
