The 25 Highest-Grossing Video Game Movies Ever

3. Rampage ($428 million)

People likely did not have much faith in Rampage, a movie based on an old video game from the 80’s which involved smashing buildings to the ground while playing as a giant gorilla, lizard or wolf.

However, somehow director Brad Peyton managed to turn a mindless video game into a fun summer blockbuster. Watching the game’s three oversized creatures causing mayhem and destruction in Chicago was fun enough, but a good performance from Dwayne Johnson (aka “The Rock”) and his sidekick Naomie Harris helped the movie avoid the dreaded “video game movie curse”. It was a smash hit at the box office too, making a whopping $428 million, being only behind the new Pokémon movie and Warcraft when it comes to box office gross.
