2. Pokémon Detective Pikachu ($433 million)

Pokémon is all the rage worldwide, so it was inevitable that another movie based on Nintendo’s video game universe would end up hitting theatres. And this first live-action Pokémon film surely was a success, proving that the Pokémon creatures like Pikachu are still as appealing.

As you might imagine, Pikachu is the star here, a cute Pokémon which only lead character Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) can understand, and who’s brought to life thanks to actor Ryan Reynolds’ voice acting. Tim and Pikachu team up to solve the mystery of his father’s disappearance (who also happens to be a detective) in a kid-friendly fantasy adventure which made a staggering $433 million US dollars at the box office in 2019.
